How to backup SSL certificate

In this example I am backing up an SSL certificate from a Windows 2008 R2 server.

Step 1 – Open Certificates Management Console

  • Go to the “start menu”, then “run” then and enter “mmc”. The MMC window should open.
  • Add the “certificates” snapin as shown below

  • Select “computer account” and “local computer”

Step 2 – Backup Certificate

Select the certificate you wish to backup and follow the wizard choosing the options below.

Specify a filename and location and you have a backup which can be used on another server if necessary.
