Error Joining win7 laptop to SBS 2008 premium domain

when trying to join a Win7 laptop to a Premium SBS domain (key word Premium).

Getting this error:

  • “Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to “blank” failed. The name will remain “(domain.local)”.

The error was:

The remote procedure call failed and did not execute.”

ISA Server actually proxies RPC on the inside of the network so to fix and allow the laptop to join:

ISA Server Management –> Add-ins –> Application Filters –> RPC Filter, right click the filter and disable it.

This issue is known to affect only Win7 joining SBS 2003 or Win 2003 domains where the DC has ISA installed.
