Windows File Server Resource Manager


According to Microsoft “File Server Resource Manager enables system administrators to understand how storage is being used and to manage the use of their storage by generating storage reports, applying quotas to volumes and folders, and screening files on the server.” You can use this tool to alert you when the volumes are running out of disk space, when users are using excessive disk space or when particular file types are being stored.




From server manager add the file server role

Select the volume you want to monitor and the reports you would like generated

You can also set the reports to be emailed to you.
